The Mayan Palace, a luxury hotel, and the Grand Mayan, a condominium development sold under the timeshare system, form together a large resort complex east and south of Acapulco on Mexico’s Pacific coast. In all, more than 1,000 rooms are available, including 360 rooms on six floors in the hotel itself. The hotel is “all-inclusive,” located on more than a half mile of natural beach front in the zone called "Playa Diamante." This resort is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the airport and less than 30 minutes’ drive to the traditional part of Acapulco, inside the bay.

The Grupo Mayan, which operates the Mayan Palace and several other resort properties throughout Mexico, is part of the Wyndham Hotel system.

The grounds of the Mayan Palace are over 200 acres of lakes and gardens, including a replica of a Mayan temple. Many guests are content to relax by enjoying the beauty and the fragrance of the tropical landscaping, or by taking the many pathways that lead to small waterfalls and pools.

Hotel Information

Rooms:

Each room has a balcony, looking out over the beautiful greenery of the grounds. The accommodations are modern and large, elegantly decorated and fully appointed. Non-smoking accommodations are available. All rooms and suites have marble baths with both a tub and shower. Ceiling fans, air conditioning, hair dryers, coffee makers, refrigerators, cable, telephones with voice mail, and several other amenities are provided. The two-bedroom suite has 1150 square feet.

Dining & Drinks:

The Bar is the Mayan's venue for live dance music for the late night crowd. The style is chic and trendy. The poolside location gives it a special setting for tropical nightlife. Earlier in the day, The Bar is a great meeting place for a cocktail or refreshment. Beach Club. This Grand Mayan facility is a great place for drinks by the pool, or for dancing to Latin and "house" rhythms until late in the night. A popular DJ makes the Grand Mayan Beach Club one of the hottest lounges in Acapulco. Late night, the dress is smart and stylish, not beach casual. Balche Snack & Pool Bars. One is by the beach, one by the pool, and one by the Aqua Park. These places provide snacks and even more substantial menu items, as well as the full range of drinks and refreshments. The X' BOK Lobby Bar is great for people watching or relaxing with a cocktail, from 5 am until 1 am every day.

Dining options include by the pool, in the restaurants, or in one's own room. (Extra charges apply to room service and for lobster or chateaubriand menu choices). Bakal Restaurant and Café offers modern Mexican cuisine. It is open for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. Dress is casual. Service for breakfast and lunch is buffet-style with lots of choices of local fruits, baked goods and hot and cold food stations with soups, salads, traditional Mexican dishes and international options, too. Dinner is somewhat more formal, with the alternative to choose table service and order from the full menu of contemporary cuisine. Café del Lago is a gourmet restaurant, offering a different sort of cuisine every night of the week, with such delicacies as lobster, prime rib and specially prepared seafood. Live piano music is provided for background. Mondo is a fine dining restaurant that brings about a fusion of Pacific Rim, French and Mexican cooking styles. Diners can choose from a wide range of epicurean dishes, from sushi to crêpes, accompanied by wines from a large selection. The ambiance is romantic, and many couples stay for after dinner drinks and dancing. Ristorante Il Forno de Gio is a casual pizza place with wood-fired ovens. It also offers many tasty, traditional Italian pasta entrées. Yum Kaax is the snack bar overlooking the golf course, and is a great solution to those looking for a drink or a quick, light meal after a game.

Activities:

On site, guests can choose to enjoy the beach or the enormous swimming pool. Sometimes the resort staff organizes pool volleyball or other contests for the guests, especially during happy hour. There is a separate children’s pool with features designed just for kids. Children will also enjoy the playground area and the game room. Child care with organized activities is provided, to give the adults a little rest from parenting. The Aqua Park includes waterfalls and slides. There are toboggan rides and a slow river cruise on a float through the whole facility. Kids enjoy the hanging bridges. The “Chispa Kids’ Club” is for anyone from four to eleven years of age, with specially-designed activities including handicrafts, learning and exercise. Golf and tennis are available, as is a fully-equipped fitness center. At the art and culture center the Mayan Palace provides an elegant and natural setting for live entertainment including shows and professional presentations. The facility also has some shopping available, including souvenirs and groceries. An auto rental counter can be found in the lobby, and the concierge can arrange reservations for all on-site and off-site activities.

The resort also provides lots of off-site excursions for sport, sightseeing and shopping. The concierge can arrange outings for scuba diving, snorkeling and fishing as well as trips into the traditional part of Acapulco for shopping and sight-seeing. Many guests enjoy taking time out to visit La Quebrada, where cliff divers launch themselves off the crags into the sea hundreds of feet below. Many of the finest restaurants in Mexico are just a few minutes away from the resort.

The exercise facility is adjacent to the spa, and the spa also offers an area for yoga or Pilates. The Brio Spa operates from 6am to 9pm daily. Reservations are strongly recommended. Need to rent boat for diving trip near Acapulco

I have been trying to find a small boat (25 feet or so) to rent for a diving trip near Acapulco. I need the boat for 2 or 3 days. It needs to have a top speed of at least 15 knots and either a dive platform or a ladder. If anyone knows of a contact please send me information at ssmacksmiter@yahoo.com. Thanks.
