Acapulco Diamante
Acapulco Diamante is many things, but in a word its exclusive. Acapulco Diamante is what you might called New Acapulco. It's a series of new, mainly luxury developments and gated-communites that stretch from the Naval Base to the outskirts of town. It's one of Acapulco's most beautiful areas which encompasses some of Acapulco's best beaches, top luxury resorts and hotels, and wealthiest neighborhoods. Lush green mountains. Million dollar houses. Beautiful beaches. Strip malls. Peace and quiet (by and large). When you're in Acapulco Diamante, you could easily forget that you're surrounded by Mexico. This is the place where people go to escape the city.
 Diamante also includes some sublime traditional areas and small villages and lacks is the in your face commercialism or the hotel zone or the hustle and bustle in close confines of Traditional Acapulco. One draw back is the omnipresence of security guards and checkpoints diminish the feeling of total freedom Mexico usually affords. Also, driving on Scenic Highway can be a challenge. The other drawback is Scenic Highway, which is as dangerous as it is beautiful. Try making a left turn toward the city with cars whipping around a blind curve 50 meters away or dodge head on traffic in the narrow lanes while trying to avoid the drainage ditch they've thoughtfully put in place on the right side of the road instead of a shoulder and you'll know what I mean.
Despite these drawback, the Diamante area offers some of the best of Acapulco including five-star hotels such as Acapulco Princess, Mayan Palace, Las Brisas, Quinta Real, and my personal favorite, Camino Real. The beautiful Puerto Marques is on the way as well as one of Acapulco's hottest beaches, Playa Revolcadero, as well as rustic tropical delights like Barra Vieja and Tres Palos Lagoon.
No matter what your interests, if you want to be able to say that you know Acapulco, you should take a day to explore the Diamante area.
