Maps of Acapulco, Guerrero & Mexico

Acapulco Maps

On the subject of maps,Maps of Acapulco, Mexico it has been one of my biggest complaints in the past that there was not a detailed street map of Acapulco. I've been looking for one for a long time and frankly couldn't believe that I couldn't find a decent one anywhere. This was especially shocking for a city of Acapulco's international fame. Well, all that changed with the publication of Guia Roji's Red Vial Acapulco (www.guiaroji.com.mx). The map is excellent, has a key in English and Spanish, and is a must have for anyone that plans to get off the beaten track or who is interested in learning the lay of the land. They can be found at Sanborn's in Acapulco or even online at Amazon.com for less than $10 USD.

While I tried my best to make a couple useful maps for Real Acapulco, truth be told, the internet is not the best medium for mapmaking and exhibition because the more detailed you make the map, the bigger it has to be to read and the bigger it is the longer it takes to load in your browser. I hope that I struck the right balance with these two Photoshop 7.0 masterpieces below. Just click the maps to enlarge and view info.

Ok, so my maps aren't all that great but I hope I great a gold star for the effort. Below are some maps I located online whose file sizes are not so big as to be impossible to load.

Here's a generic tourist map of Acapulco with a good shot of the golf courses.

You can't miss this amazing satellite map of Acapulco, courtesy of Google.

Here's a stylin' map of the Republic of Mexico. It's pretty detailed, but it does load slowly so if you're low on connection speed and short on patience, you might want to pass.

Here's a stylin' map of the state of Guerrero.

Click here for more maps at the Perry Castenñeda Library at my beloved alma mater the University of Texas at Austin (where I attended the institute of Latin American studies and what I still refer to as the Cosmodemonic School of Public Affairs for grad shcool).

Maps of Mexico is an excellent website for maps as well.

FYI: In Mexico a "map" is called a "mapa" but a map in the sense of somebody writing you directions on a piece of paper is called a "croquis".
