| La Catedral Acapulco, Mexico |
La Catedral
Acapulco's historic Catholic Cathedral, Nuestra SeƱora de la Soledad, rests at the end of it's traditional town square, the Zocalo. Despite the age of Acapulco, the church wasn't built until the 1930s and so lacks much of the glorious colonial archeture found in other Mexican cities. In fact, as you can see by the photo above, it has a distinct look. The inside is beautiful with ornate staues. I've come here every year so far on my birthday which is also the day of San Judas to light a candel. If you can catch the priest when he's not busy, he'll bless anything (well, anything within reason - keep in mind he's a preist and not Gene Simmons). In my case, he blessed the big hand-made cross that sits in front of me here as I type.
The Cathedral is open 7am-9pm daily there is no charge to enter, but you might get handed the collection plate.
