Sushi Itto - Acapulco, Mexico

Sushi Itto

In Acapulco, there are good Italian restaurants, tolerable French, Spanish and Belgian establishments, there is a recently opened Chinese in Costa Azul as well as a Thai Mex on the Escenica (watch this space). Japanese food has long been the almost exclusively the terrain of Suntory (which although you come out smelling of cooking, is good)

So then along comes Sushi Itto, which doesn’t attempt the gastronomic heights of Suntory. The lack of pretension is the only good thing I can say about this establishment. It is dreadful… I don’t think I have had a more disgusting meal in this city. Indeed I was absolutely convinced I was going to be struck down with the worst case of food poisoning since I first came to this country. The kitchen must have the best embalming fluid in the world (and it doesn’t taste of anything either) to stop fish which appears to be in an advanced state of decomposition from killing it’s customers. The salmon eggs were so old they were mushy, the tuna had a rather heavy taste of ammonia, the salmon was slimy and falling apart, the mackerel was crispy with age, the octopus was bouncy and brown at the edges and the rice was overcooked.

KEEP AWAY

The miso soup was ok but you shouldn’t go wrong with an instant packet soup.
