Driving in Acapulco, Mexico

Drving in Acapulco

When I was in 10th grade, I took driver's ed and was taught something called the Smith System. It's a five point sytem for safe driving:

1) Aim High in Steerting
2) Get the Big Picture
3) Keep Your Eyes Moving
4) Leave Yourself an Out
5) Make Sure They See You

For the entire Smith System, click here.

In Acapulco, forget the Smith system, use the Rodriguez system.

1) Lanes are a State of Mind - lanes are little more than decorations, try to stay in your lane at your own risk.

2) Don't think, Drive - Remember the scene is Star Wars where Luke turned off his automated targeting system and decided to use the Force right before he blew up the Death Star? In Acapulco, it's best to just use the force and sort of vibe your way around town. If you try to analyze all the chaos goingon around you, you'll have an overlaod, get tense, and maybe havean accident. It's best not to think, just react.

3) If There's A Space, Fill It. If there is any space between you and the car in front or you, then you're doing something wrong.

4) Honk If It Moves - if anyone makes any kind of movement, honk. If you see a pretty girl (or hot guy) walk by, honk. When stuck in traffic, it's importnat to honk your horn the entire time. Even if you're by yourself and nothingis happening, throw a honk in for good measure.

5) What? They Have Breaks- if a car is going less than 20 miles an hour, it's ok to pull right out in front of them and make them stop.
