| Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia & Mambo Music |
Acapulco Salsa & Latin Dance ClubsThere are a few good offerings for traditional Latin dance in Acapulco including Salon Q, Tropicana, Copacabana, and and Ninas. I list them as Salsa clubs becuase that is waht people tend to search on, but in Mexico it's cumbia all the way. Ninas and Salon Q are the better of the clubs and located in the Golden Zone.
You can also find numerous clubs frequented by locals where music and dancing happen, but they're a little too far off the beaten path for most folks.
How is Salsa Different from Cumbia?
Salsa is a variety of dance music as well as being a dance. As a dance form, Salsa is not a specific set of steps as much as it is a style of dance that is open to modification and elaboration. Think of it like a big pot in which you can add whatever spices you want. Indeed, each city around the world has its own way of dancing Salsa. Still, there are there only two "Basic Steps". One is the Cumbia style which is based on a side-to-side step and the other is the Mambo style which is based on a forward and backward step. In Acapulco, they do a version of cumbia with lots spins. Cumbia, born in Colombia, is very popular in both Colombia and Mexico.
