| Internet Service Providers in Acapulco, Mexico |
Internet Providers in AcapulcoIn Acapulco, there are two options for internet service. Both are somewhat more expensive than in the US, and both come with a few strings attached. That is, you basically have to choose whether you want internet and cable TV or Internet and a land line telephone.
If you want the former, you would contract the internet through Cablemás, formerly called TeleCable, located at in a big blue building: Gonzalo Gomez #14, Fraccionamento Magallanes (which is on the Golden Zone side of Parque Papagayo).
You would need to buy a basic cable package then add on internet service. Before you go ahead, make sure that the Internet is available in your colonia because while basic cable is available almost everywhere, this is not true of internet service.
The second option is Prodigy Infinitum that you connect through Mexico's cosmodemonic telephone monopoly, Telmex. Infinitum comes in a variety of packages including speeds of up to 2000, but you must also get basic telephone service and pay to have a line installed if you do not already have one. Infinitum is more reliable than Cablemás internet, but having a land-line phone can be a major cost for those on a budget. It also seems to take them an eternity to install new land lines.
A third option is available to those who have a phone line. This is an option that I would not recommend under any circumstances to those who use the internet heavily or depend on it. This is a Prodigy dial up connection via Telmex. Not only is it slow, but in Mexico, you are charged for each local call you make. Every time you get disconnected and redial, that's another charge. No unlimited calls with Telmex. But then again, if you live out in BFE, then this may be your only option. If you're not a heavy user like I am, this may actually be all you need.
