| Bus Stations in Acapulco, Mexico |
Bus Stations in AcapulcoMexico has two companies providing great
service, Estrella Blanca and Estrella de Oro, (or White Star and Gold Star
respectively). Other bus lines such as Elite, Turistar, Futura, and others are
realy just subsiaries of theses larger companies. Both offer a variety of levels
of service including the sublime Executivo/luxury class service. Most, with the
exception of third class, are air-conditioned and come with movies, though the
movies aren't always good. On my way to Chiapas once, I saw Atomic Train
starring Rob Lowe, count 'em, three times on three different buses.
The
main difference between first class and luxury is that the latter has a lot of
leg room with seats that recline all the way back to the point you're almost
laying down; there are fewer seats and so they aren't anywhere near as
crowed; Also, they tend to be direct trips, so they get you there faster.
Third class, if you dare it, stops constantly so it's super slow, no air
conditioning, cramped seats, and I kid you not, livestock has been known to make
an appearance on the bus.
Acapulco's bus stations, and Mexican bus
stations generally, are very nice, more like what we except in the U.S. from
airports. This is a big contrast with U.S. bus stations which are often scary
dumps with a lot of insane people hanging out at them. In Mexico, almost
everyone takes the bus. There is no train and luxury buses are the next best
thing to flying, sometimes even better.
Acapulco has three main bus
stations, two of which are located within spitting distance of Papagayo Park.
Estrella Blanca Station is located at:
Av. Cuauhtémoc s/n., in front of
Parque Papagayo 4 69 20 80
Estrella de Oro Station is located at: Av.
Cuauhtémoc No. 158, a bit farther down the street and on the opposite side of
Cuauhtémoc Avenue. Fracc. Magallanes 4 85 93 60
Then, there is the Ejido
Station which is sort of an agglomeration of the two competitors, but the
station aint's big enough for the both of 'em, so they have different addresses.

de Oro Av. Ejido No. 82, Col Carabalí 480 50 33, 483 50 33 Credit cards are
accepted at all, but buses do fill up, especially to smaller cities during high
season. The stations are decent, have food and beverages, restrooms, and luggage
storage as well as other odds and ends including hotel booking and telecom
offices where you can send faxes, make long distance calls, etc. No internet
though.
Buses on longer trips normally stop at restaurants, but the
luxury buses sometimes don't stop frequently so stock up on food. Also, buses
with air conditioning really crank it up so it can get very cold, so bring a
blanket or something to keep warm.
You can find direct buses to the U.S.
at all points north and central at the Cuauhtémoc stations while the latter
station tackles mainly Mexico City (as do they all), the near coastal areas such
as Zihuatenejo to the northwest and Puerto Escondido to the southeast as well as
southern sections of the country, such as Oaxaca, Chiapas etc..

Estrella Blanca Station
One of Acapulco's most poular, you can get buses all the way to the U.S. border here. It's located in front of Parque Papagayo.

Acapulco's biggest bus station, it's lcoated a bit farther down the street and on the opposite side of Cuauhtémoc Avenue from Estrella Blanca.
