Traditional Markets in Acapulco These photos came from El Mercado de los Chilapenos lcoated
in the Progresso area. Chilipenos are peopel from a rural town narby that are
the real thing. This was once, well still is, my favorite market. Had the best
prices and authentica handcrafts you won't find anywhere else. More recently,
however, the market didn't have it's usual large slecetion of cool things. I
asked on of the Senoras and she explained that the city was cracking down on
them for not paying taxes and so they're preparing to move out. Ok, I understand
law and order, but given the large number of millionaires who pay not taxes, why
destroy Acapulco's hippest market? When the new mayor is installed, I'm going to
take the issue up with him or her, believe me. The race is heating up and with
any luck, it'll be one of the folks I'm already friends with.
I really
don't know of anyplace else in the city proper where you can see scene like
these.
