  • Acapulco has two main bays: The Bay of Santa Lucia, where the port is located, and Puerto Marqués, as smaller inlet to the east of the Bay of Santa Lucia.
  • The Bay of Santa Lucia (Acapulco Bay) is surrounded by the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains.
  • Acapulco's Bay measures 3 miles (5 km) east to west and about 2 miles (3 km) north to south.
  • Acapulco is about 1,169 square miles (1,883 square km) in size. This is about 3% of the surface of the territory of the state of Guerrero.
  • The official population of Acapulco, as measured by the INEGI census in 2000, is 620,656, though this is almost certainly a substantial undercount.
