As the scenic highway descends from Las Brisas towards Puerto Marqués, there is a turn into the Camino Real Acapulco Diamante. The hotel is build into a mountainside that comes down to the bay, in a development area known as Pichilingue-Diamante. The hotel is convenient to the airport, and is about a 20-minute taxi ride from the Golden Zone of Acapulco. The architecture of Camino Real is striking, with gold hued stone and canopies over the terraces. Its 157 rooms look out over the bay of Puerto Marqués. The hotel, completed in 1993, was significantly remodeled and modernized in 2007. The architectural design is contemporary, mixing Mexican touches with suggestions of the grandeur of Europe's great hotels of the early 20th century. The Camino Real occupies the whole hillside, starting from the reception area at the top and cascading down the slope, eventually reaching sea level. The Camino Real is part of a chain of 26 hotels in Mexico and the United States owned and operated by Hoteles Camino Real, a subsidiary of Grupo Empresarial Angeles. This Mexican conglomerate has more than 40 years’ experience in the hospitality business, and pursues parallel interests in health, communications and finance.
