The Turtle Dunes Country Club is set to open in December of 2010. It promises to be the most innovative and luxurious professional golf course in Mexico. Located in the exclusive "Princess Diamante" area of Acapulco, where the storied Pierre Marqués golf facility was established decades earlier, the Turtle Dunes Country Club will offer to its members an extensive list of recreational amenities. Guests at the three Fairmont Hotels – the Acapulco Princess, the Pierre Marqués and the new Fairmont Pearl – also will enjoy access to the club's facilities.
The course itself will be a 7,200 yard, 18-hole, par 72, PGA championship facility, designed by Tripp Davis. It will be the only one of its kind in all of Mexico. Troon Golf, an internationally known management company, will oversee the functioning of the club. A smaller "executive skills course" (nine-holes) and a complete practice facility will also be offered. The Turtle Dunes Country Club will also host the Ochoa Golf Academy, supervised by LPGA champion Lorena Ochoa. The clubhouse will not only provide the traditional elements of a gourmet restaurant, friendly bar and complete pro shop, but it will also be a fully-equipped fitness center, with work-out equipment, locker facilities, a large outdoor pool with cabanas, a beach club on the ocean front, space for large events, an educational center for activities for the kids, and tennis courts. Illuminated platform tennis will also be offered to members, who will also enjoy privileges at the Fairmont's three hotels, including the Willow Stream Spa.
The Pierre Marqués course, which was closed to make way for Turtle Dunes, was a challenging course with narrow fairways, protected greens, and lots of sand and water hazards. It was a par-72, 6,635 yard course. The facility also had a driving range that overlooked the ocean. When the new course is open, players will find that these great features have been retained in a luxurious setting that takes full advantage of its magnificent ocean front location.
