At one time, the “grande dame” of all cuisines was the French. Even
today, most fine dining restaurants in the western world owe much of their traditions
of service and elegance to the standards first established in the fine gastronomic
academies of France. In Acapulco it is possible to enjoy some of the best that
French cuisine has to offer, including the elegant salads and patés, the
gratinées of onion or potato, the escargots, the famed main courses of
lamb, beef, chicken and fish, as well as fine breads and pastries. Acapulco's
French restaurants can also help patrons select the best wines to accompany the
various courses.
Le Bistroquet is perhaps Acapulco's finest French restaurant, both for the high
quality of its cuisine and for its excellent service. The tables are set in an
elegantly appointed terrace garden. Guests are invited to take advantage of one
of the best wine cellars in town. The menu of Le Bistroquet has all the items
to be expected of a classic French restaurant, escargot or garlic-infused shrimp,
followed salads of all sorts, or lobster bisque or the onion soup gratinée, considered
de rigueur at a fine French restaurant.
Perched high on the mountainside that ascends the east side of the bay, Kookaburra
has a privileged vantage point for viewing all of Acapulco below. The lighting
on the dining terrace is exclusively by candle light, creating a romantic ambiance.
The food is a clever mixture of French, American and Mexican influences. Guests
may have seafood fresh from the ocean or a steak, or perhaps one of several dishes
prepared with French style, but based on Mexican traditional recipes.
El Olvido is somewhat tucked away in the Plaza Marbella just off the Diana circle
of the Costera. Mediterranean décor, romantic setting, and modern cuisine are the main features of this upscale restaurant. El Olvido offers a modern fusion of cuisines, but in this case
it is French with Mexican. An example is the red snapper (huachinango) dressed
in a sauce made of butter and a combination of citrus juices. The bar has a special
menu of different unusual cocktails, to start off the evening.
El Jardin de los Artistas is in a small plaza near the Costera at Diana circle
(Hotel Emporio). Many food critics believe that El Jardin de los Artistas is Acapulco's
best French restaurant. The menu always provides interesting variety as well as
traditional favorites, and the presentation is always artistic (just as the name
of the restaurant would suggest). The attentive service and elegant decor complete
the favorable impression. With lots of greenery, a fountain in the middle of the
plaza, and relaxing background music, the ambiance completes the picture.
