El Alebrije

An “alebrije” is a small animal figure made in the tradition of the indigenous people of Mexico, usually out of clay, and brightly painted. In 1998, after a great success in Mexico City, the nightclub named “El Alebrije” came to Acapulco, at the end of the Costera Alemán across from the Hyatt Regency. It has become an icon of the bay, especially during Spring Break. It is also a great place for tourists and twenty-somethings with a budget for upscale diversions. El Alebrije has a maximum occupancy of 3,000 persons, and is said to be Acapulco's largest club, with five bars and a huge dance floor with tables surrounding it on several levels. The ambiance is described as “soft,” with friendly and attentive service. The music is mainly popular, with more danceable rhythms. Thursdays is ladies’ night. Arrive early on weekends and holidays to avoid long lines.

El Alebrije

El Alebrije plays modern English/Spanish rock and has a younger and less upscale crowd than Palladium. It gets lively and it's not a bad night out all things considered. The irritating doorman situation is minimal which is always a plus.
